Hillel Program
The 2011 Summer Institute will feature a new cooperative program between the NHC and Hillel: the Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. For a reduced fee of $700, college students will attend the Summer Institute sponsored by their own college Hillel. Jewish student leaders will have the opportunity to network with their peers at other colleges and with lay leaders and Jewish professionals from around the country, while the NHC builds connections to college campuses and the next generation of Jewish leadership. Students will learn and improve upon skills and techniques for building and sustaining engaging campus Jewish communities, and will build an intercollegiate framework of support. In addition to regular Institute programming, the cohort will meet throughout the week, guided by coordinators Rabbi Elizabeth Richman and Cantor Sam Asher, to learn and discuss topics such as: how to write a d’var torah; how to facilitate a sensitive discussion, such as Israel/Palestine; how to plan and recruit for a successful event. The students from each school will work together to develop a project to bring back to their campus community; the group will support each other in these projects throughout the following year. Each school is encouraged to send at least two students, and we hope to have 16-20 participants. To learn more, please contact hillel@havurah.org.
